| Birkenhead Flood Control |
LaCas Consultants Inc. carried out a field assessment of the existing dike and erosion protection works which protect the Mount Currie Indian Reserve from Birkenhead River flooding. A water surface profile analysis computer model (HEC-RAS) was generated to determine the amount of upgrading to the existing dike. The modelling also provided design criteria for upgrading the existing damaged rock riprap erosion protection works. In addition, a temporary re-usable 37m long sandbag barrier was designed upstream to be erected quickly across an access road and the British Columbia Railway tracks where permanent dike raising was not practical. The design of the dike upgrading allowed the saving of significant riparian vegetation. LaCas Consultants Inc. carried out construction inspection of the works.
