LaCas Consultants Inc. specialists in SMART Municipal Development and urban stream restoration designed a 600m long meandering channel using specialized techniques and a multi-disciplinary approach with Aqua-Tex Scientific Consultants Ltd. The primary design criteria for both the urban stream restoration was based upon the Proper Functioning Condition (PFC) technique developed by the USDA Forest Service and USDI Bureau of Land Management. This project represents only the first time PFC has been used as the basis for Best Management Practices with respect to collaboration between the municipality's need to protect its freshwater resources and the agricultural community's need to provide food both economically and ecologically sustainable. Integral to the works, a 400m long drainage ditch separating two major crop fields was abandoned to provide the farmer with a contiguous field simplifying access, irrigation and farm management.
