LaCas Consultants Inc., provided the river engineering design and construction supervision services for the annual removal of gravel from Fitzsimmons Creek. The gravel removal program is an annual flood control maintenance program by the Resort Municipality of Whistler. The gravel removal is carried out during the fisheries window when the streambed is devoid of fish eggs. A temporary cofferdam about 25m long and several metres high is first constructed to train up to 95% of Fitzsimmons Creek flows into a permanent diversion channel leading directly to Green Lake. The success of the project is predicated on the proper diversion and control of flows in order to prevent interference with BC Rail operations and the playability of the Nicklaus North Golf Course.
